2022 Honda HR-V now in Southeast Asia. Is Philippines next?

Updated on April 12 2024

Over the past couple of years, the subcompact crossover market has exploded with choices. But one of the pioneers of that class is the Honda HR-V. Now in its third generation, it now looks more grown up and dynamic. Not only that, it's just made its regional debut.

The third-generation Honda HR-V just made its ASEAN debut over at Thailand. Given that Thailand is our gauge for incoming models, does this mean the Philippines is next to get it? For now, we can't answer that since there will surely be changes specific for out market. Nonetheless, the Thai-spec model should be a good place to start when it comes to equipment and specifications.

Over in Thailand, there are three model variants available. It starts with the E, followed by the EL, and topped off by the RS. For the Philippines, we're likely to see a similar arrangement. It is also possible that the Philippine-spec models will be made in Thailand.

As for exterior features, all models come with LED headlights and daytime running lights. The E and EL versions ride on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the RS gets 18-inch alloys for a sportier look. The RS also adds gloss black highlights. Another exclusive exterior for the RS is the optional two-tone scheme.

Inside, the HR-V employs Honda's latest driver-oriented dashboard. There's a wide touchscreen and a digital instrument cluser fitted, along with multiple USB ports and storage bins. Of course, the Philippines will have a different equipment list, but we can expect this car to be relatively loaded and similar to the Thai-spec.

Moving to the engine, the Thai-spec HR-V is only available with a hybrid powertrain. So does this mean the Philippines will get the e-HEV as well? That's still a big question mark but it's worth looking at its stats. According to Honda, it has a total system of 131 PS and 253 Nm of torque. That high torque figure comes courtesy of its electric motor. Claimed fuel economy is rated at 25.6 kilometers per liter.

We're curious what kind of specifications the Philippine version of the HR-V will get. Either way, the earliest we can expect this model to arrive here is sometime in 2022. But if you want a used HR-V or second-hand Honda right now, check out the stocks we have on hand at our website, Automart.PH.
