It&#39;s always nice to have an extra row of seats, at least that&#39;s the mindset of most buyers these days. That explains why MPVs have boomed in the last couple of years. One of the models that boosted its popularity is the Honda Mobilio.

Launched in 2015, the Mobilio was Honda&#39;s first affordable seven-seater in the Philippines. It went directly against the Toyota Avanza and Suzuki Ertiga. With its launch, it meant that Honda fans didn&#39;t need to buy a big or expensive vehicle to fit their extended family. That also meant that they can stay loyal to brand as well.

Just a year after its launch, Honda spun-off the Mobilio to create the BR-V, a seperate model based on the MPV. At the same time, the Mobilio was given a mild facelift with a bolder front end plus a redesigned dashboard. Honda discontinued the Mobilio in the Philippines in 2021 with the BR-V serving as both the entry-level MPV and crossover got the brand.

Good buy or Goodbye?

With the introduction of the BR-V in 2017, it was easy to overlook the Mobilio. For a little more money, you can have more ground clearance and an SUV-looking MPV. Even when it comes to used cars, people tend to jump straight to the BR-V as well. But there are several solid reasons why the Mobilio is worth considering.

Because it&#39;s often overlooked, resale values aren&#39;t the highest out there. That makes them absolute bargains in the second-hand market. You can get the legendary Honda reliability for not a lot of money, along with seven seats. The Mobilio also has another signature Honda trait: Space efficiency. The cargo area rivals that of larger crossovers when the third-row is not in use. That said, the third-row does not fold flat. On the flipside, it&#39;s the most powerful in its class and delivers diesel-rivaling fuel efficiency.

Of course, there are a few things you need to look out for when shopping for a used Honda Mobilio. If you&#39;re checking out a 2018 or 2019 model, make sure it&#39;s had its fuel pump replaced. Some of the units that were released during those years are subject to a fuel pump recall that has affected other brands. You can also get the replacement part free of charge if you get it from the dealership. There are also reports of buggy touchscreens and rattling second-row seats.

Despite those issues, the Mobilio deserves a second look in the used car market. It might even be the bargain MPV you&#39;re looking for.
