Each vehicle undergoes a comprehensive 176-point checklist to ensure all components are in excellent running condition.

If you're looking for a relatively new car with reliability for not a lot of money, let us turn your attention to the ever-so-popular Toyota Wigo. For years, the Wigo has served as Toyota's entry-level model, attracting the likes of first-time car buyers, fleet markets, and those who simply need a reliable set of wheels to get them around. First launched in the Philippines in 2014, the Wigo has a wide selection of variants available. This budget hatchback is based on a Daihatsu model called the Ayla. But if you think being a Daihatsu underneath isn't a good thing, you have to remember that Toyota fully owns that brand. The Wigo was given a minor facelift in 2017 and another one in 2020. Note that these updates are, more or less, cosmetic with not many changes under the skin.

When it comes to budget hatchbacks such as the Wigo, you really have to lower your expectations. It won't ride as well as bigger cars, nor will it be quiet or refined. The size also means cargo space is limited, but at least the seats fold down for extra room. Also, if you're looking for the most efficient mini-hatchback in its class, the automatic-equipped Wigo isn't it. The four-speed arrangement in it blunts economy and acceleration. Lastly, there have been reports that engine supports are the weakest link in the Wigo as well. But that's not to say it's a terrible car. For starters, it has the seal of Toyota (well, Daihatsu) reliability, so that's enough to give most some peace of mind. With its three-cylinder, 1.0-liter engine, running costs are cheap since it doesn't need a lot of oil and just three spark plugs. Of course, the advantage of its size is its maneuverability, making it easy to drive and easy to park. Opt for the later versions and almost all come equipped with a touchscreen

- Low maintenance costs - Strong value - Good crash test scores - Excellent visibility and maneuverability - Generally well-equipped for the class

- Not the most efficient mini-hatchback - Four-speed automatic blunts fuel economy - Choppy ride - Needs stronger engine supports
