This Is the Philippine-Spec 2022 Nissan Terra

Updated on March 27 2024

The Terra was Nissan's (rather late) entry to the popular pick-up-based SUV class. It made its debut back in 2018, making it the freshest model among its competitors. However, its main rivals countered that by giving their models significant facelifts. For example, Mitsubishi gave the Montero Sport substantial tweaks, while Ford and Toyota gave the Everest and Fortuner new engines in their top-spec versions.

Nissan needed to counter that move quickly, and the result is the new-look 2022 Terra. But is it just a cosmetic update or does it go beyond skin deep? Let's take a closer look.

If this SUV looks familiar, that's because it's essentially the X-Terra sold in the Middle East. The 2022 model has an entirely different front end and a redesigned rear tailgate. The Terra's front bumper gets an extensive makeover with sharper corners and a new profile. It also gets a larger, more prominent grille to go along with it. Nissan even went as far as reshaping its headlights and giving it a new hood.

As for the rear, the 2022 Terra dons a pair of redesigned tail lights. Nissan also changed the shape of the tailgate's middle section. A prominent chrome strip connecting the tail lights and the new rear bumper wraps up the updates to the rear. New wheel designs are also part of the 2022 minor model change. As far as facelifts go, this is an extensive one.

But the interior upgrades are the main highlight in this update. The dashboard is no longer an exact copy of the one found in the Navara. Instead, it's a unique design that brings the ambiance upmarket. The changes also bring a new touchscreen infotainment system that also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus wireless connectivity. Nissan added a larger digital display between the gauges and a new steering wheel to go along with it. Even the door panels are different in the 2022 version. An electronic parking brake system replaces the traditional handbrake. The push-button tumble down second-row seats are still standard in all variants.

Ever committed to safety, Nissan enhanced the Intelligent Mobility active safety package. It includes rear cross traffic alert, blind sport warning, surround view monitor, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking. These features are reserved for the top of the line versions. However, all models are equipped with six airbags, traction control, stability control,  and a reverse camera.

The 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine is carried over from last year's model. Power is retained at 190 HP and 450 Nm of torque. The output is the same across all variants whether it's two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. That engine shifts with a six-speed manual in entry-level versions while the rest use a seven-speed automatic.
