Are these leaked photos of the 2022 Toyota Avanza?

Updated on November 25 2024

You can expect the subcompact MPV market to be a little more exciting in the coming months. A few weeks ago, Honda unveiled the second-generation BR-V, which seemed to have an effect on its competitors. Not to be outdone, it seems that Toyota is getting ready to mount a challenge against the practical Honda.

No, it's not the all-new Rush, at least not yet. Instead. It appears to be the next-generation Avanza. Even though Avanza sales aren't what they used to be, it's still a very important model for Toyota. The brand has still been quiet about the redesigned Avanza, but the MPV was supposedly leaked early after photos from Indonesia surfaced online.

If these photos are true, the Avanza takes a significant leap forward in terms of design. For example, the entire front end looks significantly different from the present model. While the sharp angles and creases are still there, it's done in a way that makes this subcompact look bigger than before. The new design also gives us an idea that the next Rush might just look this aggressive.

As for the sides, it appears much longer than before. There are no exact specifications about its dimensions just yet, but it wouldn't be surprising if it was over 100 mm longer than the outgoing model. This is good news for those who wish the Avanza would be a larger MPV.

The rear is also a significant departure from the 2012-present version. It draws some inspiration from the newer Toyota MPVs and crossovers. There's even a hint of Lexus thanks to its connected tail lights. It's worth noting that this is the Veloz version, which is dubbed as the highest trim level for the Avanza.

The interior updates are just as aggressive as the exterior redesign. Again, it looks far less truck-like and utilitarian. From the air-con vents to the center stack, the overall look is a more car-like and premium fascia. While this is the range-topping Veloz/Q version, the design is expected to trickle down to the lower models and variants.

For now, there is no information about the engine specs. However, we'll keep an eye out for any updates surrounding one of Automart.PH's best-sellers. It might also take a while before it lands here.
