Mitsubishi previews the 2022 Xpander. To debut next week

Updated on December 26 2024

Since it was launched in the Philippines last 2018, the Xpander has become one of Mitsubishi's top-selling models. Three years since, and the subcompact MPV remains a popular choice for those who need a family car. However, the competition is creeping in with all-new models, namely Honda and Toyota.

To counter that wave, Mitsubishi is getting ready to release the facelifted Xpander soon. How soon, you ask? By next week, we'll see more of it, and its specifications, once it premieres at the 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. For now, Mitsubishi is showing us a shadowy teaser of the upcoming MPV.

But if you recall from a couple of weeks ago, this facelifted version was spied roaming around the streets of Indonesia. While the photos were still blurry, we can make out a few details. At least the teaser photo confirms the “T” arrangement of the new headlights. We also see the LED daytime running lights getting a bit of an update as well.

There are no specs of the 2022 Xpander just yet. However, we're expecting it to have the same engine and transmission combination from the pre-facelift model. That means it's likely it will still use the familiar 1.5-liter MIVEC engine with 105 PS and 141 Nm of torque. It would be nice if it got a six-speed manual or more gears for its automatic transmission.

We will know more once Mitsubishi puts out all the details of the 2022 Xpander by next week.  Indonesia will get their hands on the 2022 Xpander first as it is assembled there. As for the local launch, we'll have to wait a little longer. In the meantime, check out our stocks of used, second-hand Xpanders. You can expect the prices of these to go down so there are deals to be expected.
