Is the facelifted 2022 Mitsubishi Xpander coming soon?

Updated on May 17 2024

The battle for subcompact MPV sales for the next few years is heating up. Honda has revealed they entry in the form of the 2022 BR-V. Toyota is also getting ready too with the sharper-looking Avanza. Now, it's Mitsubishi's turn.

Like the Toyota, Mitsubishi hasn't made the official announcement yet. However, the 2022 Xpander was recently spotted driving around Indonesia. At least, that's what various reports say. If it's true, then next year will be a good one for subcompact MPVs.

However, it seems that the Xpander will be a disadvantage here. Whereas the Avanza appears to be a fully redesigned model, the Xpander looks more like a heavy facelift of the present model. The photos may be blurry for now but the changes are very clear, especially at the front end of this subcompact MPV.

The hood and the high-mounted LED daytime running lights are still there. However, that seems to be the only carryover from the present Xpander. The bumper gets an extensive redesign, along with the grille and lower apron. But it's the headlights that are of interest. As we know, the Xpander's headlights are mounted on the bumper instead of higher up. Those new lights are now in a smaller “T” arrangement. We're curious what those will look like when lit up.

There are other changes, too. For example, there are some tweaks to the skirts and it's noticably riding on different wheels. Those wheels appear to be inspired from the Outlander crossover that launched several months ago. As for the rear, there wasn't a clear photo of it, but we see darker tail light surrounds and new bumper trims.

As for the rest of the car, we're expecting a few updates in the interior, but not a total redesign. We're also expecting the engine and transmission combinations to be carried over as well.

Until Mitsubishi makes the announcement, there is no telling when the new-look Xpander will be launched in the Philippines. In the meantime, you can always check out the wide variety of Xpander models at the Automart.PH website.
