A closer look at the 2022 Ford Ranger

Updated on July 26 2024

It's difficult to believe that the present Ford Ranger made its world debut 10 years ago. The Ranger was one of the pick-up models that helped redefine the pick-up truck market. This model proved that pick-up trucks don't have to be slow, crude, basic, and uncomfortable. You can even say it forced many manufacturers to rethink their pick-ups.

But its abilities won't disguise the current Ranger's age. It may be one of the most capable pick-ups out there, the competition is either catching up or surpassed it in some levels. It's time for Ford to give their truck a total redesign. That is exactly what Ford has been doing as they said we can expect its global debut by early 2022.

For now, Ford is showing teasers of the next-generation pick-up. It's also been spotted several times wearing heavy camouflage along public roads. The latest set of photos come from Thailand, and it's some of the closest ones to date.

While it's still wrapped in camouflage, there is a much clearer view of its design details. At the front, there are C-shaped headlights inspired from the much larger F-150 and compact Maverick models. The grille in this one also makes it look even larger than the already sizable current generation Ranger. Its fenders are more emphasized than the outgoing model as well.

We can also see the wheel designs that will be used for the 2022 Ranger. Based on the photos, it appears that there will be three wheel designs available. One of them even looks rather sizable. It's also interesting to note that one of the Rangers snapped in the photos has a camera on the side mirror. It hints that this Ranger will come with a 360-degree view monitor, at least for the higher-spec models.

Engines are still unknown at the moment but it's a safe bet that these will be carried over. The current engine line-up consists of the tried-and-tested 2.2-liter TDCI, 2.0-liter EcoBlue, and 2.0-liter BiTurbo EcoBlue. Technologies are also expected to be much more advanced as well.

As mentioned earlier, the all-new Ranger will make its world premiere during the first half of 2022. However, it isn't known when it will be launched in the Philippines.
