Speed Limit Increased on Sections of Skyway 3 & NAIAx
Updated on February 16 2025
Motorists using the NAIA Expressway (NAIAx) and Skyway Stage 3 can now look forward to faster travel as SMC Infrastructure raises the speed limit on straight sections of these expressways.
New Speed Limit Details
San Miguel Corporation (SMC), the parent company of SMC Infrastructure, has announced a 20 kph increase in the speed limit for straight portions of both expressways. Beginning January 15, 2025, the speed limit for NAIAx will be increased from 60 kph to 80 kph. Similarly, the adjustment will take effect on January 20, 2025, for Skyway Stage 3.
“This change will make travel on NAIAx and Skyway Stage 3 faster and more efficient for everyone. We have carefully studied this to make sure that it benefits motorists while prioritizing safety,” said SMC Chairman and CEO Ramon Ang.
Study-Driven Adjustment
The decision was based on a comprehensive safety assessment conducted by traffic safety managers. The study aimed to determine how to improve traffic flow without compromising safety on the expressways. The result is a speed limit adjustment that ensures motorists can save time while maintaining safe travel conditions.
Key Benefits for Motorists
Faster Travel Times
With the higher speed limit, drivers can expect shorter travel durations on straight sections of NAIAx and Skyway Stage 3.
Enhanced Efficiency
The adjustment optimizes the use of expressways, easing congestion and improving overall traffic flow.
Safety Assurance
The changes were thoroughly studied to maintain safety for all road users.
Reminders for Drivers
While the higher speed limits allow for faster travel, motorists are reminded to drive responsibly and adhere to the rules of the road. Always adjust your speed according to road conditions and traffic flow to ensure a safe journey.
