What is Nissan’s e-Power Technology?

After perfecting the technology fitted in the Nissan LEAF, Nissan’s e-Power system aims to provide electric vehicle (EV) benefits and driving performance while taking away the need for plug-in charging and range limitations.

How does it work?

Nissan’s e-Power is a series hybrid system consisting of a high output battery and a gasoline engine which serves as a power generator. In conventional hybrid vehicles, also known as a parallel hybrid system, the wheels are driven by both a gasoline engine and an electric motor at the same time when needed. Nissan’s e-Power on the other hand has its engine utilized solely as a way to charge the battery; it is not connected to the wheels.

What is e-Power’s advantage?

Nissan’s e-Power is proud of offering the best of both worlds: having the driving experience of an EV, with instant torque and a smooth and quiet ride, while still allowing drivers to fill up at a gas station instead of plugging into a charger. This is especially beneficial for Philippine motorists who still do not have access to charging station options.

Quoted from Nissan, e-Power delivers EV-like excitement, quietness, and smooth acceleration, but with the confidence and convenience that comes with a gasoline engine and a fuel tank.

While traditional EVs generally require a bigger motor as it is the only direct source to drive the wheels, Nissan was able to successfully learn how to reduce weight and improve response control while optimizing energy management. This results in the e-Power system such as in the Nissan Kicks e-POWER having a smaller battery (2.13 kWh) than the Nissan LEAF (40 kWh), while delivering similar driving experience as a full EV.

What vehicles come with e-Power?

Currently on the local market is the Nissan Kicks (price starts at P1,209,000), which provides the innovative e-Power technology. Provided with the system, Nissan claims that the Nissan Kicks e-POWER reaches an impressive 22 Km/L (city and highway combined) and a range of up to 900 Km (from a full tank and is dependent on driving conditions). Such an eco friendly car comes with driving comforts too, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, e-Pedal Step, and Nissan Intelligent Mobility.
